Area athletes sign letters of intent for college sports

STURGIS, S.D. – Three Sturgis Scoopers made it official yesterday – signing on the dotted line to play football at the South Dakota Mines next fall.

Konner Berndt, Dominik Smith and Braden Temple have signed their National Letters of Intent to join the Hardrockers’ football program.

Berndt was selected to the All-State team following his senior season, Smith earned special teams teams player of the year, and Temple earned an all-conference selection.

Also this week, Logan Albers from New Underwood will be heading to Dickinson State University this fall.

Albers signed a letter of intent on Feb. 2 to play football for the Blue Hawks.

This past season, he had 45 total tackles and 11 sacks in seven games for the Tigers.

Albers was also named to the Great Plains All-Conference First Team and the Class 9B All-State First Team.

Rapid City Central senior Matayah Yellow Mule will don the same school colors next season, but in a very different place following this academic year.

Yellow mule signed a letter of intent on Feb. 2 to compete in track and field at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion.

Rapid City Central senior Trent Farren plans to continue his football career at Dickinson State University.

Farren is a four-year letter winner, a three-year starter and was a team captain this past season.
