NEW UNDERWOOD, S.D. – Area cowboys and cowgirls competed in the Southwest Regional Rodeo over the weekend, in a final tuneup ahead of next week’s state championships.
In the bareback riding, Kashton Ford of Sturgis won with a total of 20 points.
In the barrel racing, Shelby Derner of New Underwood had the top time for a total of 17 points.
Acelyn Brink of Newell won the breakaway with 18 points and Landry Haugen of Sturgis came in second.
Winning the bull riding was Jestyn Woodward of Custer with a 76 point ride in the first go and a 74 in the second.
Caden Stoddard of Norris won the boy’s cutting and Landry Haugen of Sturgis won the girl’s cutting.
Winning the goat tying was Whitewood’s Taylor Price and T. Merrill of Wall won the pole bending.
Landry Haugen won the reined cow horse and Traylin Martin of Faith won the saddle bronc. Gabe Glines of Smithwick captured first place in the steer wrestling.
Rance Bowden of Belle Fourche won the tiedown.
Cade Lockhart and Brynn Thompson won the team roping title.
