LINCOLN, Neb. – The area’s cowboys and cowgirls wrapped up a great year of rodeo at the National High School Finals Rodeo on Saturday.
Talon Elshere from Hereford, SD claimed Reserve Champion in the saddle bronc riding with 225.5 on three head. He placed third in the short go with a score of 75 points.
Grey Gilbert of Buffalo, SD came in fifth in the Steer Wrestling and in Team Roping, South Dakota’s Tegan Fite and Rio Nutter also came in fifth.
Colome’s Linkyn Petersek placed fifth in the Tie Down.
Texas won the team standings on the girls; side with Wyoming placing second. South Dakota placed 22nd.
In the boys’ standings, Texas was first with Idaho second. Montana placed third, South Dakota was seventh and Wyoming was tenth.
Overall, South Dakota placed tenth.
Meanwhile, Tashina Red Hawk from White River competed in the Queen Contest.
She won the Queen’s Showcase, along with Personality and finished sixth in the nation.
