Arnold Joseph Janish, 90, of Hot Springs, SD, passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Michael Fitzmaurice State Veterans Home in Hot Springs, SD.
Celebration of Life services will be Friday, February 2, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the Veterans Home in Hot Springs, SD, in the Chapel. An Inurnment Ceremony with Military Honors will be held at the Black Hills National Cemetery on June 21, 2024.
Arnold Joseph “Joe” Janish was born August 8, 1933, to Jacob C. and Helena (Popp) Janish in Waubay, SD. He grew up in the Waubay area and graduated from Waubay High School in 1951. Joe joined the U.S Air Force in May 1952, and was retired in October of 1972, as a Master Sergeant. He was in the Korean War and Vietnam War. He then attended Black Hills State University from 1972-1973. In 1974 he joined the Scotland School District in Scotland, SD as an Industrial Arts Instructor until retiring in 1990. Following retirement, he enjoyed a life of travel with his wife of 68 years, Barbara Janish.
Joe is survived by his wife: Barbara (Barr) Janish; four children: Brian Janish, Lander, WY, Donald Janish, Eau Clair, WI, Susan Cruz, Henderson, NV, and Patricia Janish, Yankton, SD; five grandchildren: Michael Janish, Sioux Falls, SD, Andrew Friedline, Tampa, FL, McKenna Friedline, Minneapolis, MN, Mackenzie Janish, Stillwater, OK, and Damian Janish, Yankton, SD; and one great grandson; Bowen Janish, Sioux Falls, SD.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Jacob C. and Helena Janish, 6 Siblings, and son, Michael Janish.
