Arrest made after fleeing car strikes another vehicle Tuesday night

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Rapid City police are investigating an accident that was caused by a vehicle fleeing from police.

The incident happened around 7:40 p.m. Tuesday when police attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle that was speeding on 5th Street.

The vehicle didn’t stop and ended up colliding with another vehicle at the intersection of 5th and New York Street.

Emily Chipps, 18, of Rapid City was the driver of the fleeing vehicle and arrested after medical evaluation for aggravated eluding, possession of a controlled substance and an existing warrant. Three other people in the vehicle were taken to the hospital.

A man in the vehicle that was struck by Chipps was seriously hurt and also taken to the hospital.
