RAPID CITY, S.D. – It took fire crews a week, but the Auburn Fire is now 100-percent contained according to Great Plains Fire Dispatch and the South Dakota Wildland Fire.
The fire started last Monday north of Rapid City and scorched approximately 968 acres of grass and timber.
The fire led to some evacuations of homes in the area, but no structures or cattle were lost.
According to Great Plains Fire Information, the fire remains active within its perimeter and smoke may still be visible in the coming days. Firefighters will remain on scene to put out any hot spots that might flare up.
