BROOKINGS, S.D. – From established ranchers to those just coming into the industry, a program aimed at broadening expertise of beef producers across all experience levels is underway.

Applications are being accepted for the seventh presentation of the beefSD program offered through South Dakota State University Extension.

An intensive educational program, beefSD is designed to take participants to the next level in beef enterprise management. Participation in the beefSD program is an excellent opportunity for beginning producers to increase knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the beef industry and develop the skills needed to be successful beef business managers.

The program is open to all beef producers willing to consider adopting new management opportunities. If not currently involved in the beef industry, participants must possess a strong desire to manage a beef enterprise in the future. The curriculum will focus on precision livestock technologies for beef producers.

Each class in the beefSD program involves a rigorous selection process, including applications and interviews, to choose up to 20 participating operations.

The chosen participants will embark on a two-year educational journey, demanding active involvement in numerous components of the program, from in-person workshops to interactive webinars.

The program promises extensive educational benefits and networking opportunities that cover various facets of the beef industry.

The program is set to start in November 2024 and will run until October 2026. It is structured around key learning experiences both within and outside of South Dakota, including practical sessions that tackle real-world challenges in beef production.

The beefSD program has historically led to substantial improvements in participants’ operations, with notable advancements in financial stability, acreage management, and resource utilization, proving its effectiveness as a transformative force in the beef industry.
