FORT MEADE, S.D. – The Black Hills Conference Cross Country Championships were held under sunny, but smoky skies at Fort Meade Thursday.
Winning the boys race and claiming the BHC championship was Tate Grabow of Hill City, finishing in a time of 16:06.37.
Custer’s Sean Shipp was second and Ty Petrocco of Sturgis was third.
Sturgis had three runners finish top ten, helping them win the team title with Custer second and Spearfish third.
Quinn Bruch finished in 5th place for Sturgis and Ty Ferguson was 9th.
Winning the girl’s race was Peyton VanDeest of Spearfish, finishing in a time of 19:34.40.
Her teammate Kori Keil finished second and Lia Mundt of Belle Fourche was third.
Sturgis had five runners finish 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th. They were Emilie Reedy, Iris Zylstra, Keelin Dinkins, Paige Willnerd and Lucy Hamer.
Sturgis finished in second behind Spearfish in the team standings. Hill City was third and Belle Fourche was fourth.
