BHSU Men and Women Basketball play New Mexico Highlands

LAS VEGAS, NV. – Black Hills State falls to New Mexico Highlands for the first time ever 77-63 as the Yellow Jackets fall to 6-1 in RMAC play and 10-4 overall. It was the first RMAC loss of the season for the Yellow Jackets who shot 46.8 percent from the field and went 2-13 from three-point range in the John A. Wilson Complex.

Despite having a 34-23 lead in the third quarter, the Yellow Jackets allowed a 27-6 run which gave New Mexico Highlands the means to take it to the finish line.

The Yellow Jackets struggled to rebound late, only having eight rebounds in the second half while allowing 22, including nine offensive rebounds. BHSU, who was ranked top ten in the country in turnovers per game, were forced into eight in the third quarter and nine in the first half. The Yellow Jackets were led by a trio who scored 16 or more points each in Bradie Schlabs, Haylee Weathersby, and Kalla Bertram.

LAS VEGAS, N.M. – The Black Hills State University men’s basketball team returned to the win column on Thursday night as they took care of business on the road in a 71-56 victory at New Mexico Highlands in the John A. Wilson Complex.

Despite a slow start offensively in which the Yellow Jackets were held scoreless for a nearly six and a half minute stretch after scoring off the tip, the defense controlled the game as the Cowboys were held 25 points below their season scoring average of 81.4 points per game and shot just 33.9 percent from the field.

BHSU, on the other hand, shot 59.6 percent from the field on the night for their second-best shooting percentage on the season and improved to 7-0 this year when shooting 50 percent or better.
