BHSU Softball Plays FLC Tough in Pair of Close Games

DURANGO, Colo. – Black Hills State softball dropped its Sunday doubleheader at Fort Lewis, 7-6 and 4-3.

The Yellow Jackets (10-28, 8-28 RMAC) held leads in the sixth inning in both games, but FLC was able to come back and take both games.

Game One (L, 7-6)
BHSU got on the board first, scoring one in the second and then adding another in the third on a Gianna Haley RBI single to jump out to a 2-0 lead in the third.

Later, tied 2-2, the Yellow Jackets put up a 3-run sixth inning with RBI doubles from Shayla Tuschen and Tyler Whitlock, along with an RBI single by Hailey Franklin to move back ahead 5-2 through six innings.

FLC had a big seventh inning, though, pushing across five runs to take their first lead of the game, 7-5.

BHSU threatened in the bottom of the seventh to try and mount a comeback, scoring one on a Tuschen RBI groundout, but that would be all the Yellow Jackets added in the final frame as they went on to lose 7-6.

Game Two (L, 4-3)
Shayla Tuschen opened the scoring for BHSU in the first, lifting a sacrifice fly out to right field to bring home Fallyn Marshall and give the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 lead.

Holding that lead into the fifth inning, Haley helped add on to the lead with a 2-RBI double to drive in Marshall and Lizzy Johnson and make it a 3-0 Yellow Jacket lead.

But in the top of the sixth, FLC drove in four to move ahead 4-3 and eventually won by that score.
