UNDATED – Democrat Joe Biden was declared the winner of the presidency Saturday, as the state of Pennsylvania turned in his favor as the vote counting from a record-setting election began to wrap up.
Pennsylvania’s 20 electoral votes pushed Biden over the top, although he continues to lead in the uncalled states of Nevada, Arizona and Georgia.
As the news made the airwaves this morning, a tweet by South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem that she made on Thursday began to make the rounds across Twitter.
Governor Noem tweeted unproven claims Thursday afternoon that election systems were “rigged.” Her tweets came hours ahead of President Trump’s news conference in which he delivered multiple false statements about the election and democratic process as Former Vice President Joe Biden surged ahead in polls and projections.
“Donald Trump has been fighting the establishment, the mainstream media, and now rigged election systems on behalf of the American people and our way of life,” she said.
However, with both Democrat and Republican poll-watchers on hand, the ballot-counting process across the country largely has been running smoothly with no evidence of widespread fraud or problems.
Noem’s communications director, Ian Fury, tweeted the same views as his employer: “Don’t rig elections, and we won’t call them ‘rigged,’” he said on Twitter.
Twitter has been keeping a close eye on tweets this week as the nation awaited the election results.
