Billie Dale “Bill” Archie was born March 4, 1930, in Sonora, Texas, the third of five children born to Elton and Ida Merl (Machen) Archie. At the age of 5, the family moved to Wyoming where they ranched in Platte County. Bill grew up and received his education in Sunrise, Wyoming, graduating from Sunrise High School in 1948. After high school, Bill travelled around the country doing various jobs, including working in the oil fields.
He later returned to the ranch in Platte County, where he met Linda Ayers. They were united in marriage on September 24, 1966, in Wheatland, and to this union two children were born, Kerry and Jerry “JD”. They made their home near Wheatland on a small ranch, raising a few cattle and horses. Bill enjoyed following his children’s activities as they grew up. He also worked for Missouri Basin Power Plant, retiring in 1996. Bill was a Master Mason, and was a member of the Guernsey Lodge. He loved ranching and raising horses.
Bill and Linda moved to Philip, South Dakota, in 2013, to be closer to their grandchildren. He enjoyed watching the grandkids in their activities, especially rodeo. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and hunting.
