CUSTER, S.D. – Black Hills Balloons, a local hot air balloon flight company, is celebrating forty years of business.
In recognition of their anniversary, the company will host giveaways and events to be announced on their social media profiles throughout the 2024 season. The 2024 season officially began on May 1, 2024, and will run through the month of October.
Damien Mahony, Co-Owner and Chief Pilot of Black Hills Balloons said, “To reach this significant 40-year milestone is a testament to the passion, dedication, and hard work of the company’s founder, our small team, and the unwavering support of our loyal customers and Custer community. As a small husband-and-wife-run business, every balloon ride we provide is not just a service but a personal and cherished experience.”
Mahony and his wife, Keely, purchased Black Hills Balloons in 2015 from founder Steven Bauer. Since their purchase, the couple has advertised “magical moments” to its customers. “Our success is intricately woven into the fabric of this community, and we are immensely grateful for the camaraderie and encouragement we’ve received over the years,” said Mahony.
Black Hills Balloons is not only considered an attraction for tourists, but also for locals opting for panoramic views. “We’d like to encourage locals to check out local attractions in the Black Hills and Badlands,” said Michelle Thomson, President and CEO of Black Hills & Badlands Tourism Association. “Catching a balloon ride is a great way to support local businesses and it’s also a way to treat yourself to an adventurous staycation.”
