Black Hills Track Classic held in Sturgis Saturday

STURGIS, S.D. – With windy and cool conditions, the annual Black Hills Track Classic was held in Sturgis Saturday.

In boys results:

Julian Scott of Rapid City Stevens won the 100 and 200 meters and his teammate Simeon Birnbaum won the 400.

Miles Ellman of Custer won the 800 with two Sturgis Scoopers finishing in third and fourth. They were Ray Henderson and Owen Koontz.

Sawyer Clarkson of Belle Fourche captured the 1,200 meters and Deron Graf of Sturgis won the 3,200.

Tanner Lunders won both the 110 and 300 meter hurdles with Sturgis’ Aiden Hedderman coming in third in both races.

In the relay races; Stevens won the 4 x 100 and the 4 x 200 with Hot Springs capturing the 4 x 400. Sturgis came in second.

The Scoopers captured the 4 x 800 meter relay and Custer won the medley relay.

In field events, Ben Goldy of Stevens won the shot put with Scooper Konnor Berndt placing third. Berndt won the discus throw for Sturgis, as well as the javelin throw.

Dawson Reckling of Kadoka won the high jump, Chase Maher of Rapid City Christian won the pole vault, Aiden Giffin of Belle Fourche won the long jump, and Tom Solano of St Thomas More won the triple jump.

In girls’ results:

Jayda McNabb of Stevens won the 100, Jordyn Larsen of Custer captured the 200 and Brionna Holso of Stevens won the 400 meters. Novali Dinkins of Sturgis got second in the 400.

Josey Wahlstrom of Custer won the 800 and Sturgis placed first and second in the 1,600 with Iris Zylstra winning the event and Lucy Hamer finishing in the runner up position.

Kyra Vandenburg of Belle Fourche won the 3,200 meters.

Baylee Van Zee of Stevens won the 100 meter hurdles and Jaylen Nacthigall of Hot Springs won the 300 meter hurdles.

In the relay races, Stevens won the 4 x 100 and the 4 x 800. Sturgis won the 4 x 200 and the 4 x 400. Custer won the medley relay with Sturgis placing second.

In field events, Kellyn Kortemeyer of Custer won the shot put and discus throw. Brynn Nelson of Stevens won the javelin. Lexi Long of Sturgis placed fourth in the shot put and fourth in the javelin.

Rebecca Shuck of Kadoka won the high jump, Emily Adams of Stevens won the pole vault, Rebecca Theis of Stevens captured the long jump and triple jump.

Sturgis had Cali Ewing finish fourth in the long jump and Rachel Banks finish third in the triple jump.
