Boys’ State Basketball Tournaments open with Faith, Hot Springs in action

UNDATED – The Boys’ State Basketball Tournaments got underway today in Aberdeen, Sioux Falls and Rapid City.

At the State B tournament in Aberdeen, the Faith Longhorns opened up action by taking on the White River Tigers.

The Tigers proved too much for the Longhorns, as they rolled to a 72-56 victory.

White River jumped out to a 22-14 lead in the first quarter, and led 36-24 at the half.

The Tigers kept the momentum going in the second half and outscored Faith 18-16 in both the third and fourth quarter.

Caden Selby and Jackson Schauer led Faith with 15 points each. Ryan Palmer added 12 for Faith.

Joe Sayler led White River with 24 points.

Faith will play Castlewood in Friday’s consolation semifinal. Castlewood fell to top seeded Lower Brule in today’s early game 67-55.

At the State A Tournament in Sioux Falls, Dakota Valley jumped out to a 21-14 lead over Hot Springs in the first quarter and never looked back, cruising to an 80-47 win.

Issac Bruns had a big game for Dakota Valley, scoring 24 points. Camron Maciejewski led Hot Springs with 11 points.

The Bison will play Sioux Valley in the consolation semifinal. Sioux Valley fell to Hamlin 72-64.

And, at the State AA Tournament in Rapid City, Sioux Falls Jefferson defeated Harrisburg 53-41. Yankton defeated Sioux Falls Washington 58-51.
