Brookings Bobcat Basketball Teams Stun Scoopers

STURGIS, SD – The Brookings Bobcats battled with the Sturgis Scoopers on Friday night at West Gym, taking home two road wins.

In the early game, the Bobcat girls sprinted out to a 35-9 halftime lead and never looked back, defeating the Scoopers, 54-20.

Macy Even tallied 15 points for Brookings (7-12), with Logan Smidt adding 10 points and six rebounds. The Bobcats shot 42% from the field and 58% from the free throw line.  Brookings had 10 turnovers and 26 rebounds.

Sturgis (4-15) was led by Tori Williams with eight points.  The Scoopers shot 11% from the field and 37% from the stripe, committing 16 turnovers and grabbing 27 boards.

In the boys contest, Sturgis had a 10-point lead after one quarter and led Brookings 27-22 at the half, but the momentum swung in the Bobcat’s favor after intermission.  Brookings outscored the Scoopers 39-21 in the second half on their way to a 61-48 victory.

Brookings (2-17) shot 35% from the field and 65% from the free throw line, canning 17-of-26 charity tosses.  The Bobcats had 14 turnovers and snared 29 rebounds.  Griffen Bartels scored 12 points for Brookings, with Austin Clark adding 10.

Sturgis (7-12) was paced by Ryan Heinert, who scored 13 points.  Hayden Rock dropped in 11 points and had seven rebounds.  The Scoopers had 28 rebounds and turned the ball over 21 times.  Sturgis shot 30% from the field and 76% from the stripe.  

The Scooper boys and girls host their final regular season games on Saturday, as the Yankton Gazelles and Bucks come to West Gym.  The girls game is scheduled to tip off at 1pm.
