GILLETTE, Wyo. – A coal mining company in northeast Wyoming has informed its workers of potential layoffs in response to lower production at the mine and a weak domestic market for Powder River Basin coal.
The Gillette News Record reported Thursday that it is unclear how many jobs would be affected at Buckskin Mining Company.
The mine north of Gillette has produced 17.6 million tons of coal in 2019, a 30% increase over the 13.5 million tons in 2018.
A first-quarter report reflecting numbers so far in 2020 has not yet been released.
