Burglars hit Rapid City pawn shop for second time in as many days

RAPID CITY SD – The Rapid City Police Department says a string of thefts yesterday and today have resulted in an additional fourteen firearms being stolen in the Rapid City area.

Police Spokesman Brendyn Medina says the most alarming thefts happened early Sunday and again early today (Monday) at PAWN WITH US pawn shop at 406 East North Street.

Medina says at approximately 4:45AM Sunday, two males broke into the store and stole four AR-15-style rifles. Then this morning at approximately 5AM, another alarm came from the same store.

He says three males in hoodies smashed a window and took six rifles and a shotgun from the pawn shop.

The two suspects in Sunday’s burglary are described as younger, possibly juvenile males, each standing about 5 feet 7 inches to 6 feet 1 inch tall, average build wearing lights grey hoodies, jeans, and bandannas over their faces.

Police say that in addition to the pawn shop robberies, there were three more firearms stolen from unlocked vehicles in Rapid City. That’s in addition to five other gun thefts from cars over the past three weeks.

Brendyn Medina says lawful gun owners in town have to take serious action to safeguard their guns at all times.

Anyone with information about the gun thefts over the last few weeks should call Detective Chris Holbrook at 394-4134, or text “RCPD” and the information to 847411, the confidential tip line.
