RAPID CITY, S.D. – Senator Mike Rounds is responding to an executive order from President Joe Biden aimed at strengthening so-called “Buy American” rules.
President Joe Biden signed an executive order that would increase purchases of American-made products by the federal government. Senator Mike Rounds took on Twitter expressing his enthusiasm for the order.
The BAA promotes the use of American-made supplies by imposing a price preference for “domestic end products” and “construction materials” in federal procurements.
According to a statement from the White House, the order by President Biden is ensuring that when the federal government spends taxpayer dollars they are spent on American made goods by American workers and with American-made component parts.
The statement continued in noting the Executive Order fulfills President Biden’s promise to make Buy American real and close loopholes that allow companies to offshore production and jobs while still qualifying for domestic preferences.
Rounds used the announcement of the “Buy American” rule to also voice his support of Mandatory Country of Origin Labeling of beef products.
The effort has failed in the past because of opposing cattle, beef, processing and trade industry interests voicing strong opposition to country of original labeling.
Rounds said that he’d like to see the U.S. negotiate with other countries to ensure Americans know where their beef is coming from.
