ELK POINT, S.D. – A pursuit triggered by an outstanding warrant in Lawrence County, S.D., that began in Clay County, S.D., and ended in Union County, S.D., resulted in the arrest of a South Dakota woman who is running for the South Dakota House of Representatives.
Robin Schiro, Elk Point, S.D. fled from Clay County authorities and the South Dakota Highway Patrol last week on Highway 50 before being arrested later that day outside of the North Sioux City Hall by Union County deputies.
Authorities first pursued Schiro after being alerted of an outstanding warrant for speeding in Lawrence County, South Dakota.
Her involvement with officers would end with her eventually being taken to the Union County Jail to be held there on the warrant from Lawrence County and to begin a mental health committal process. She was telling officials while in the booking room of the jail that she was bugged by the IRS.
Schiro was booked into the Union County Jail before being released on an unsecured bond. She’s due back in court in Union County on May 30 at 9 a.m. Charges from Clay County are pending.
Schiro filed petitions with the South Dakota Secretary of State’s office earlier this year and has been certified as a Republican candidate for District 17 House of Representatives. Her opponents in the June Republican primary election will be incumbents Republican state representatives William Shorma of North Sioux City and Chris Kassin of Vermillion.
