STURGIS, S.D. – Candidates running for Sturgis Council participated in an election forum at the Erskine Building Tuesday night.
There are races in two of the four city wards this year, as Mark Chaplin and Dave Murtha will face off in Ward 3, and Terry Jensen and Steve Shuck will vie for the Ward 4 seat.
Alex Usera is running unopposed for Ward 1 and Tony Dargatz is unopposed in Wad 2. Mayor Kevin Forrester is also running unopposed, although all three candidates participated in the forum.
Candidates answered questions from moderator Francie Ruebel-Alberts and the audience.
Topics included property taxes and how the Legislature was tackling them, the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and its future, future development, affordable housing and more.
This year’s municipal election is April 8th.
