Carstensen, City Council incumbents roll to victory in Sturgis municipal election

STURGIS, S.D. – City officials reported a heavy voter turnout in Sturgis Tuesday for a municipal election that has been anything but ordinary.

And, unofficial results indicate citizens seem to be happy with the way things are going as incumbents ruled the day.

In the mayoral race, Mark Carstensen cruised to another term with a 1,017 to 470 vote victory over challenger Tammy Bohn.

In the Ward 1 race, incumbent Mike Bachand won another term by defeating Brenda Vasknetz 151 to 97.

In the Ward 3 race, which was between 3 candidates, Preston Williams scored the victory with 208 votes. David Murtha got 141 votes and Sean Natcke garnered 70 votes. Williams will replace Jason Anderson, who did not run for re-election.

And in the Ward 4 race, Kevin Forrester defeated Justin Bohn 340 to 133.

The election will need to be canvassed, and that will take place at the next council meeting.
