Catherine Grant-Anderson

Catherine Furois Grant-Andersen, 91, died Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at Aspen Grove, Sturgis, SD.

Catherine was born in St. Onge, South Dakota to Charles and Margaret (Nicholas) Furois on April 13, 1932.

She attended school at St. Onge, St. Martin’s Academy and graduated from Spearfish High School. After graduation, she worked as a waitress at the Cozy Kitchen Café in Sturgis. An accomplished seamstress, she entered the “Make It Yourself With Wool” contest. She made a coat, won the South Dakota competition and went to Denver for the regionals. Catherine enjoyed entering baked goods at the Butte County Fair. She always had a large garden, growing lots of vegetables.

In 1952 she married Robert Grant and they moved to the family ranch north of Whitewood. It was there they raised their three children; Dale, Mike and Peggy. After Robert’s passing in 1991, she continued at the ranch until she retired, when she moved to Sturgis.

She married Raymond Andersen in 1998. In her retirement she served her church in many areas including treasurer. She also enjoyed square dancing (making her own skirts), bowling, and cake decorating. She was a member of the Pioneer Society of the Black Hills and was a life-long member of the American Legion Auxiliary. A special time for her was her Friday lunches with friends Maryann and Laree. She especially enjoyed her time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Catherine was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, and her sister, Bernadine Hansen.

She is survived by her sons, Dale (Kay) Grant of Vale, SD, Mike (Kristen) Grant of Whitewood; daughter, Peggy (Milton) Ustad, Beresford; stepson, Myron (Vonda) Andersen; 5 grandchildren, Levi (Tasha), Zach (Kenzie), Kirsten (Jake), Keith, Kane; step grandchildren, Megan, Nate; sister, Sr. Therese Marie Furois; and two special friends, Laree Scott and Maryann Rasmussen.

Visitation is Thursday, October 26, 2023, 5:00-7:00 p.m., Kincade Funeral Chapel. Services will be Friday, October 27, 2023, 11:00 a.m., St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Sturgis. Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery.
