Cavalier Boys Defeat Scoopers

RAPID CITY, SD – The St. Thomas More Cavaliers ended the first quarter on a 16-0 run on their way to a 66-46 victory over the Sturgis Scoopers on Tuesday night.

The Cavs led 23-8 after one quarter and 34-22 at the half and were led by Holden Griswold, who splashed in four three pointers and 14 points in the first half. 

The Scoopers cut the STM lead to just seven points early in the third quarter, until the Cavaliers blew the game open and led 52-31 headed into the fourth. STM held on and outscored Sturgis 15-14 in the final quarter to secure the win. 

Turner Thompson dropped in 18 points for St. Thomas More on 8-for-8 shooting. The Cavs shot 43% from the field and from the free throw line, made 8 turnovers and grabbed 26 rebounds. STM canned nine total threes and improves to 10-4 on the year. 

Ryan Heinert scored 16 for Sturgis, who falls to 4-6 on the season. The Scoopers shot 37% from the field and 62% from the charity stripe. Sturgis committed 11 turnovers and snared 21 rebounds.

The Sturgis boys and girls host the Mitchell Kernels on Friday at West Gym.
