RAPID CITY, SD – The St. Thomas More Cavaliers held the Sturgis Scooper girls to just 17% shooting from the field and ran away with a 58-30 victory on Thursday night.
The Scoopers could only manage two field goals in the first half, three-pointers by Joellen Cano and Tatum Lightenberg, plus two free throws and were down 29-8 at halftime.Â
The offense came alive for Sturgis in the second half as the Scoops put up 12 points in the third and 10 in the fourth. Sturgis couldn’t chip away at the Cavs lead and STM kept their foot on the gas pedal enroute to their 10th win of the season.Â
Reese Ross had a complete game for STM, shooting 8 of 16 from the field, 6 of 8 on free throws and she gathered 11 rebounds. Ross finished with 23 points. Â Cano led the Scoopers with six points.Â
The loss drops Sturgis to 2-12 on the season. The Scoopers travel to Box Elder next Thursday to take on the 2-7 Douglas Patriots.
