Celebrate end of summer blast at Newell Labor Day Rodeo

NEWELL, S.D. – A full weekend of fun. That’s how Newell Community Club member and long-time volunteer Cheyenne Vig describes the annual Newell Labor Day Celebration underway this weekend.

Saturday’s events include a 5K Fun Run/Walk, the Whistle Stop Market, a Quilt Show, the Newell Museum, FFA Goat Roping, Fireman’s BBQ and a street dance.   The Ranch Rodeo & Calcutta offers a little different take on the popular event, according to Vig.

The ranch rodeo one woman, one kid, one senior and one hand.  It’s a unique team concept for the Ranch Rodeo   And you might want to come in for the Corgi Race. But there’s also a whole lot more

Mutton Bustin is so popular, organizers are having two this year including at the Labor Day Rodeo on Monday.

Sunday, September 1st begins with the Cowboys for Christ service, followed by the J.D. Mutchler Memorial Team Roping. Along with a Car Show and Tractor Pull, there is an added attraction this year.

Labor Day starts with rodeo slack followed by the parade with the theme “Life Is A Song”  There are kids games in the park. There are also two fundraisers, a bake sale in the morning to benefit the Newell Ambulance and Fire Department and the second to benefit a new set of grandstands.

There’s so much to see and do at the Newell Labor Day Celebration that it can be hard to pick from the three days of events.
