Change of command ahead on lines of First Thunder Fire

RAPID CITY, S.D. – It was another quiet night on the lines of the First Thunder Fire, as crews prepare for what they hope will be full containment of the blaze southwest of Rapid City soon.

The day’s firefighting crews held their last morning briefing as a Type 3 Incident Management team today as the fire remained at 77% containment and at 157 acres.

Today is the last operational period for the Type 3 team as they will be demobilized to become available to different assignments across the country.

After today, the fire will still be staffed by the local unit and a Type 4 operations team will assume command of the fire as it lessens in complexity.

Fire crews will be stabilizing line today, taking advantage of cooler weather ahead of warmer, drier conditions expected for the weekend.
