Charges pending against 19 year old in fatal accident

ROBERTS COUNTY, S.D. – According to authorities, a man walking along a South Dakota highway died after being hit by a vehicle early Sunday (July 28, 2024) morning.

The incident happened at 1:23 a.m. three miles south of Wilmot on South Dakota Highway 123.

The Department of Public Safety reports that a pedestrian was walking in the southbound lane of SD Highway 123 when he was struck by a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe, also in the southbound lane.

The driver — 19-year-old Alyssa J. Feather from Wilmot — was taken into custody for DUI and has other charges pending. She was not wearing a seatbelt.

The pedestrian — 20-year-old Darius Christopher Small of Summit — received fatal injuries.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
