STURGIS — The City of Sturgis has officially closed on a piece of property that could someday house a planned aquatic adventure park.
This week, the city wrapped up its purchase of the Richards Property, located off Vanocker Canyon Road southwest of town.
City officials say seller Dave Richards played an instrumental role in helping the city purchase the property.
The city hopes to see housing and commercial development on the property, along with a proposed Sturgis Lakeside Adventure Park.
The Sturgis City Council unanimously approved the purchase of the 77-acre parcel for $1.4 million in March.
Money for the land came from the city’s reserves.
City officials waited 45 days to close on the property in case its decision got referred. That didn’t happen.
The city will move to officially annex the property into city limits at its May 2 meeting.
