City says not responsible for race ballot survey

STURGIS, S.D. – Some Sturgis residents have reported getting a text that asks them how they plan to vote regarding a controversial street race on the ballot of this year’s municipal election.

The text says “Hello, this is Sarah with Public Survey Research. I have just one quick question for you about the Sturgis City Election.”

The text then asks if the recipient plans to vote for or reject authorizing the proposed street race.

On their Facebook page, the city of Sturgis says they are not involved in the text message survey being sent out.

At the moment, it’s not clear who is behind the text message.
