Claiming fraud, groups want counties, including Pennington, to turn over voting records

RAPID CITY, SD – As the November election nears, there has been an increase of claims of voter fraud in South Dakota.

The South Dakota Freedom Caucus claims that several county auditors and the secretary of state have been actively suppressing the release of public information related to the public contracts and purchase agreements for South Dakota’s election software and equipment.

Hot Springs, SD evangelist Matthew Monfore is asking Pennington County to turn over the cast vote records as a way to remove all doubt of voter tampering, saying the majority of people believe the last election was compromised by individuals changing the votes.

But Gary Drewes, chairman of the Pennington County Commission said the tabulators are not an internet-based piece of equipment. Used to count ballots, he said no devices or individuals can change how the tabulator is functioning.

Pennington County auditor Cindy Mohler agrees, noting she has not received information that would indicate that there was voter fraud in Pennington County nor has she received anything from the secretary of state’s office that would suggest there was voter fraud in Pennington County.

She explained that ballots are counted by person and then run through the tabulators. When those two numbers match, there isn’t an issue.

Both the commission and the auditors office will meet with Monfore Oct. 26 to hear and respond to his concerns.
