Chaffee, Cammack lead in close race in District 29 State Representative contest; close race in District 30

STURGIS, S.D. – Three candidates vying for the two spots in the District 29 race are very close in votes.

With all precincts reporting, Kirk Chaffee has the most votes with 2,351. The race, however, between Gary Cammack and Kathy Rice is close and a recount is possible.

Unofficially, Cammack leads Rice by just 32 votes. Cammack has 2,102 while Rice has 2,070.

In the District 29 Senate race, Dean Wink gets the nod with 2,109 votes. Challengers John Carley and Beka Zerbst each received 1,548 and 505 votes respectively.

The race is close in the State Senate District 30 – where Julie Frye-Mueller leads Tim Goodwin by just 46 votes. A recount is likely there.

Dennis Krull and Patrick Bauman are the top two vote-getters in the District 30 House race.

In District 31, Randy Deibert grabs the Senate race, defeating Ron Moeller and in the District 31 House race, winners were Scott Odenbach and Mary Fitzgerald.

In the District 33 Senate race, Incumbent David Johnson defeated Janet Jensen 449 to 339.

In the District 33 House race, Phil Jensen and Curt Massie are the top two vote getters with 416 and 312 votes respectively.

Becky Drury and Steve Duffy get the primary nod in District 32 House and in the District 34 House race, it is Mike Derby and Jess Olson.

In the District 35 House race, the winners are Tony Randolph and Tina Mullaly.

In the race for Pennington County Sheriff, it is Brian Mueller and Ross Rossknecht won the county commission, District 1, race.

Marty Mechaley won the Custer County Sheriff’s race, Fred Koester won the Haakon County Sheriff, and Tucker Amiotte won Jackson County Sheriff.
