College Basketball Roundup – BHSU clinches spot in RMAC Tournament

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Black Hills State men’s basketball clinched a spot in the 2023 RMAC Tournament with a 100-69 victory at UCCS Friday night.

The Yellow Jackets (21-1, 15-1 RMAC) finished the night with nine different scorers and six in double-figures.

Adam Moussa recorded the first triple-double in Yellow Jacket history in the DII era, finishing with 13 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists on the night.

Joel Scott and Matthew Ragsdale each tallied 18 points on the night. Scott added two steals, two blocks and two rebounds.

Caelin Hearne scored 14 while grabbing four boards while Ryker Cisarik totaled 11 points and seven rebounds.

PJ Hayes rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points and four rebounds.

In the women’s game;

Black Hills State University women’s basketball held their first of three road games on Friday night against the UCCS Mountain Lions, securing a 59-56 victory that also completed a season sweep of UCCS.

The Yellow Jackets (17-5, 12-4 RMAC) finished the night off with a 38.3 percent mark from the floor (23-of-60), a 29.2 percent look from beyond the arc (7-of-24), and 54.5 percent from the charity stripe (6-of-11). On the defense, BHSU was able to record six steals and five blocks against the Mountain Lions.

Leading the BHSU offense was Niki Van Wyk, who continues to put up strong performances for the Yellow Jackets. Van Wyk finished the game with 20 points on 7-of-15 shooting and 5-of-11 three-pointers in 36 minutes of playing time. BHSU’s bench players had a huge part in their victory over UCCS as they secured 22 points, led by Alessia Capley (11), Haylee Weathersby (8), and Kammie Ragsdale (6).

In other region action Friday night, South Dakota Mines’ men defeated Regis 86-76. The women dropped their matchup, however, with Regis, 85-64.
