SPEARFISH, S.D. _ Black Hills State men’s basketball moved past UC Colorado Springs, 87-79 Saturday night, improving to 8-0 and tying a program-best start to the season, matching only the 1927-28 Black Hills Teachers College team.
The Yellow Jackets (8-0, 2-0 RMAC) used big shots in the second half once again as all five starters recorded double-digit points.
Joel Scott led the way with 28 points, going 9-of-14 from the field and 10-of-14 from the charity stripe. He recorded a double-double on the night with his 14 rebounds.
Meanwhile, the lady Yellow Jackets (7-1, 2-0 RMAC) played strong second and third-quarter basketball to take their sixth win in a row, defeating the UCCS Mountain Lions 58-42.
Morgan Hammerbeck led in scoring for the Yellow Jackets after she tallied 16 points in 28 minutes of playing time against the Mountain Lions. Hammerbeck was 7-12 from the field and 50 percent from long range while nabbing five boards and three assists.
On other area action, the South Dakota Mines Mens Basketball team edged Regis 83-82. The women fell to Regis 77-48.
