UNDATED – In college basketball action Saturday, the BHSU men recovered from the first loss of the season with a 66-57 win over Westminster.
The Yellow Jackets (14-1, 8-1 RMAC) used a 35-21 second half to overcome a slow start, while shooting at a 45.5 percent clip from deep in the final period.
Joel Scott led all scorers with 21 points to go along with 14 rebounds for his seventh double-double of the season. He also tallied three assists, two steals and a block.
Matthew Ragsdale finished with 14 points and a block, going 5-of-10 from the field.
Meanwhile, Black Hills State University women’s basketball defended their six-game home streak on Saturday night against the Westminster Griffins, defeating the visitors 58-54 to remain undefeated at home. It is also the first time BHSU has defeated Westminster since March of 2021, when the Yellow Jackets toppled Westminster 71-66.
In other action Saturday, South Dakota Mines Men’s Basketball took on a hot Colorado Mesa squad on Saturday night and battled throughout the game, but went down nine in the second half and were not able to recover, falling to the Mavericks 69-60.
The Hardrocker women finished out the weekend playing Colorado Mesa University Saturday afternoon at the King Center. The Hardrockers held a lead at the half but were unable to come out with the win and fell 68-61.
Elsewhere,
Led by Matt Dentlinger’s 26 points, the South Dakota State Jackrabbits defeated the South Dakota Coyotes 82-64. The Jackrabbits improved to 9-9 with the victory and the Coyotes fell to 8-10.
