SPEARFISH, S.D. – Black Hills State men’s basketball sunk Metro State with a big second half to win 89-57 Saturday night.
The Yellow Jackets (20-1, 14-1 RMAC) outscored MSUD 61-25 in the second half and finished the night with 15 threes while having 10 different players score.
Joel Scott recorded a double-double on the night with 25 points and 10 rebounds to go with two blocks and a steal.
Matthew Ragsdale went 6-of-7 from deep to finish with 18 points while Hoku Fisher and PJ Hayes each tallied nine points and four rebounds.
Adam Moussa was all over the floor, finishing with eight points, six rebounds, five assists, four blocks and a steal.
Meanwhile, in the women’s game; Black Hills State University held another home bout against MSU Denver on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Roadrunners in a tough 61-52 matchup at the Donald E. Young Center.
The Yellow Jackets (16-5, 11-4 RMAC) went 19-of-49 from the floor and 4-of-18 from beyond the arc while knocking down 10-of-12 from the free throw line. This matchup was a defensive slugfest for both teams: BHSU held five blocks, a season-high, six steals, and 24 rebounds. MSU Denver, however, held 33 rebounds on defense and a dozen steals.
Niki Van Wyk found a way to tie her single-game high of 21 points against the Roadrunners tonight, going 7-of-11 from the field and was 50 percent from three. Van Wyk also held an 80 percent mark from the charity stripe. On defense, Van Wyk led the Yellow Jackets with five defensive boards while recording a block.
In other area action:
RAPID CITY, S.D. —– South Dakota Mines hosted the Orediggers on Saturday afternoon, and it was an offensive showdown, with both teams nearing 100 points. Despite the great offensive performance by the Hardrockers, they couldn’t pull it out at the end as Colorado Mines escapes with a 98-92 win.
In the women’s game, the Orediggers rolled to a 84-68 victory.
