UNDATED – Area college basketball wrap up for Saturday, January 9:

The Yellow Jackets women’s basketball team fell to 6-2 in the RMAC after being defeated by the Colorado Mesa Mavericks Saturday night in a game highlighted by stellar defense from both teams.

SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Yellow Jackets had three double digit scorers on the night including Racquel Wientjes (14), Danica Kocer (10), and Morgan Ham (10). Wientjes led the team in boards with 7 total boards pulled down with Megan Engesser close behind pulling down 5 of her own. Engesser also led the team in steals sneaking the ball away from the Mavericks 2 times on the night.

The SD Mines Women’s game against Colorado State/Pueblo was postponed due to COVID-19 issues.

In men’s basketball:

The South Dakota Mines and BHSU men’s games scheduled for Saturday were postponed due to COVID-19 issues.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — A.J. Plitzuweit posted 19 points and six assists as South Dakota topped Kansas City 68-62. Josiah Allick led the Roos with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) — Noah Freidel had 25 points as South Dakota State easily beat Western Illinois 92-63. Freidel made 5 of 7 3-pointers. He added eight rebounds. David Wingett had 15 points for South Dakota State (8-3, 4-1 Summit League). Douglas Wilson added 14 points. Baylor Scheierman had 11 points and 11 rebounds. Tamell Pearson had 13 points for the Leathernecks (2-9, 0-4), who have lost five straight games. Adam Anhold added 11 points and seven rebounds.
