College Football Roundup – BHSU wins homecoming game

SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University Yellow Jackets celebrated its homecoming week with a football win Saturday.

The Jackets team moved to 1-0 in league play for the third consecutive year on Saturday afternoon as the Yellow Jackets took care of business with a 33-7 Swarm Days victory over Fort Lewis.

The defense stepped up possession-after-possession as they forced three Skyhawk fumbles, while on the offensive side of the ball the running game came to life as BHSU improved to 10-1 during the Breske Era when gaining 200 yards or more on the ground during a game.

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The South Dakota Mines football team was back in the friendly confines of O’Harra Stadium this weekend. It wasn’t just any weekend, however, as it was homecoming for South Dakota Mines and the week was filled with festivities.
 
The football team certainly did its part delivering a show that included over 350 yards of offense, five sacks a turnover, a 20-0 second half, and a 40-19 victory.  
 

HAMMOND, La. (AP) — Kirby Vorhees ran for 179 yards and scored three touchdowns and No. 1-ranked FCS-affiliate South Dakota State destroyed Southeast Louisiana 41-0.

The Coyotes outgained Southeast Louisiana 417-186. SDSU is the first No. 1 team to visit Strawberry Stadium since top-ranked McNeese came to Hammond in 2003.

VERMILLION, S.D. (AP) — Keyondray Jones-Logan returned the opening kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown, Travis Theis and Charles Pierre Jr. both scored twice as South Dakota rolled to a 42-3 win over Drake.

Theis scored on runs of 25 and 4 yards and Pierre had a 1-yard run and 20-yard reception.

Theis had 94 yards on just nine carries. Aidan Bouman was 18-of-24 passing for 219 yards for the Coyotes, who had 411 total yards. Carter Bell had four receptions for 56 yards and ran twice for 28 yards and a touchdown.

The Bulldogs were held to 211 yards and Shane Dunning’s 23-yard field goal in the second quarter.
