College Football Wrap – BHSU takes down Chadron ST; Mines’ falls to Colorado Mesa

SPEARFISH, S.D. – Black Hills State football rolled past Chadron State 55-19 Saturday night in the team’s home opener at Lyle Hare Stadium.

The Yellow Jackets (2-1, 1-0 RMAC) posted 556 total yards of offense, and had three players with over 100 yards and multiple touchdowns.

Tanner Clarkson was outstanding, completing 18 of 24 passing attempts for 343 yards and five touchdowns without an interception. On the ground he had 41 net yards and a rushing touchdown to finish with six total touchdowns on the night.

Nolan Susel rushed for 138 yards on 16 carries with two touchdowns, and added a third touchdown on two catches for 13 yards.

Hasaan Williams finished the game with three touchdowns, hauling in seven catches for 183 yards, including a 72-yard touchdown reception.

TJ Chukwurah had a 63-yard touchdown catch himself, finishing with two catches for 79 yards.

In other action Saturday, the South Dakota Mines Football Team dropped their homecoming game to Colorado Mesa 38 to 30.

The Hardrockers outgained Colorado Mesa by a large margin, 498-278…Johannsen threw for 310 yards and four touchdowns…Jalen Frye went over 100 yards on the ground for the second time in three games, while Johannsen ran for 53 yards…Ben Noland had six catches for 100 yards and three touchdowns…Max Hoatson grabbed 8 balls and a score with 78 yards…Henry Dryden had a career game, catching six passes for 96 yards…Hunter Newsom recorded three tackles for loss and a sack….Caleb Franklin added a sack.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Mark Gronowski had a career-high six touchdowns, five passing and one rushing, to help defending FCS champion South Dakota State beat Drake 70-7 on Saturday at Target Field, home of the Minnesota Twins.

South Dakota State (3-0) extended its winning streak to 17 in its final nonconference matchup of the regular season.

VERMILLION, S.D. (AP) — Nate Thomas ran for 164 yards and two touchdowns and Travis Theis carried for 120 yards and two more touchdowns as South Dakota ran past Lamar 35-6.
