PIERRE, S.D. — Everyone is safe following an emergency landing at the Pierre Regional Airport Wednesday evening.
Pierre police say a United Airlines flight operated by SkyWest Airlines landed after experiencing engine failure. The aircraft was enroute to Denver from Fargo.
A news release from the Pierre Police Department said a call was received by Central South Dakota Communications at 6 pm informing of the emergency and that the aircraft would be landing in Pierre.
The Pierre Airport Rescue Fire Fighters initiated their emergency operations plan and stood by as the plane landed safely at 6:15 pm and passengers were offloaded at the Pierre Regional Airport terminal.
The 48 passengers on board were able to get off the plane and wait at the Pierre Regional Airport terminal.
The Flight tracking website “FlightAware” shows the plane that landed is a twin-engine, CRJ-200 (Canadair Regional Jet) that was going from Fargo to Denver when the incident occurred. Passengers were delayed in Pierre about four hours, when another SkyWest regional jet flew in to take the travelers to Denver.
