STURGIS, S.D. – The Meade County Sheriff’s Office is warning homeowners about a rise of contractor fraud.
Meade County Deputy Sheriff Christopher Williams says his office has recently opened five investigations into contractors stealing money from homeowners looking to make improvements.
Some of the homeowners paid in full while others made deposits, only to see no work on their homes.
According to Williams, the five cases represent well over $100, 000 in theft.
The sheriff’s office is currently looking into four contractors from both Meade County and Pennington County. The contractors were hired for jobs including siding, windows and roofing.
Those contractors now could face grand theft charges.
