STURGIS, S.D. – Court officials in the Black Hills area are asking citizens who need to be in court not to show up sick or if they’ve been around someone who’s been sick.
The advisory is part of the continuing spread of COVID-19.
In Pennington County, the 7th Judicial Circuit, including Pennington, Custer, Fall River and Oglala Lakota Counties, is asking citizens who need to be in court to ensure they are healthy before coming in.
In a release Monday, the court says if you are scheduled to appear in court and you have a fever, have a cough, believe you’ve been exposed to COVID-19; have any underlying medical condition or health concerns, including heart disease, lung disease or diabetes, have a weak immune system, are pregnant or have other health related concerns, then you should not appear in court.
Instead, those people are asked to contact the clerk of courts or their state attorney’s office.
For jurors who are reporting for jury duty, please remember to check the online system or call in system before reporting to verify your need to appear; you will also be given text message updates as the situation demands.
Effective April 7th, anyone appearing in court must wear protective facial coverings such as a mask, scarf or bandana that covers the nose and mouth.
Courts in Meade County are following a similar measure.
