COVID-19 active cases surpass 22,700 in Wednesday report

PIERRE, S.D. – South Dakota health officials reported 2,708 new cases of COVID-19 Wednesday with 663 of those listed as probable.

Active cases continue to rise, as the state reports 22,743 today. Hospitalizations also continue to increase – up 21 to 336 Wednesday. Monument Health reports 55 COVID-19 related hospitalizations with 12 in the I.C.U.

After reporting no deaths on Tuesday, there were 6 listed today, sending the state’s death toll to 2,534. Pennington and Custer County each accounted for one death. The state also reported its first COVID-19-related death of a child under the age of 10.

New cases across the Black Hills area include 361 out of Pennington County, where 57 of those listed as probable.

Meade County reported 72 new cases with 6 probable and Lawrence County had 60 new cases listed, with 11 of those probable.

Elsewhere, Oglala Lakota County showed 43, Butte County had 24, and Custer and Fall River County each reported 23 new cases.
