COVID-19 cases increase, four more deaths reported

STURGIS, SD – The Department of Health reported 263 new cases of COVID-19 Thursday, up from 169 yesterday. Recoveries continue to outpace new cases as active cases decline.

Pennington County reported an additional 41 new cases.  Active cases declined by eight to 327. The cumulative total number of cases in Pennington County reached 1,701 today.

Meade County reported 16 new cases. The number of active cases increased from 78 to 86. The total number of cases is 364.

Lawrence County added 10 new cases, bringing its cumulative total to 277. Active cases increased to 74, up seven from Wednesday.

The total number of active cases in Butte County is 20, with 41 recovered. Fall River County reports 28 active cases and 42 recovered while Custer County posts 50 active cases and 94 recovered.

The total statewide active number of cases is up 22 on Thursday to 2,456.

Hospitalization numbers have increased by seven on Thursday, for a total of 83.

There were four more deaths reported today.  The state’s death toll is now 177.

The deaths took place in Bennett, Clay, Corson and Minnehaha counties. Two females and two males passed. One person was in their 70s, three were older than 80.
