COVID-19 deaths increase by 20 Monday as new cases total 347

PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Health reported 347 new cases of COVID-19 Monday and another 20 new deaths were reported.

The new deaths send the state’s death toll to 1,381. There have been 435 deaths reported in December. The new deaths were eight men and 12 women.

Active cases were up slightly to 8,373 and the number of people hospitalized dropped by one to 344.

New cases across West River totaled 83.

Pennington County reported the most West River Monday with 38. Active cases in Pennington decreased to 1,066.

Lawrence County added 10 new cases Monday while Meade County added two.

Other new cases across West River included 8 each in Oglala Lakota and Dewey, 4 in Perkins, 2 each in Butte, Fall River, Corson, Ziebach, Haakon and Gregory, and one in Stanley.

There were 1,035 new persons tested reported on Monday. Monday’s new person tested positivity rate is 33%.
