COVID-19 numbers up 58 Tuesday

PIERRE, S.D. – The Department of Health reported 58 new cases of COVID-19 Tuesday and one new death. The new death was out of Minnehaha County.

Pennington County had 15 of those new positive tests, sending their cumulative total to 590 with 150 active cases.

Meade County reported one new cases today. Meade has 52 cumulative cases and 10 active cases.

Oglala Lakota County also reported a new case. The cumulative caseload in Oglala Lakota hit 100 today.

On Monday, Oglala Sioux Tribe President Julian Bear Runner declared a 72-hour lockdown for the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation due to the rising number of cases.

Effective immediately, all businesses and borders will be closed to everything except emergency vehicles, law enforcement and ambulances. All traffic coming onto will be stopped and people will be asked to return home. Administrative Leave is granted for all employees during the lockdown with the exception of first responders and emergency personnel.

The statewide active caseload is down 70 today to 875. There are 65 people hospitalized – up 5 from Monday.
