PIERRE, S.D. – The surge of COVID-19 cases is showing no signs of slowing down as 2,584 new cases were reported in Thursday’s report from the state Department of Health. Of the 2,584 new cases, 650 were listed as probable.
Active cases jumped by another 2,000 today to 24,796. The number of people hospitalized because of the virus increased by 7 to 343.
Ten new deaths were reported, sending the state’s death toll to 2,544. Of the new deaths, one was out of Pennington County where the death toll climbs to 294.
Across the Black Hills area, Pennington County had 332 new cases with 67 of those listed as probable.
Lawrence County reported 71 new cases with 2 probable and Meade County had 69 new cases with 8 of those probable.
Elsewhere, Oglala Lakota County saw 50 new cases, Custer County reported 29, Butte County showed 17, Fall River County added 9 and there was one new case reported out of Harding County.
