Credit card skimmers caught on camera at RC Walmarts

RAPID CITY, S.D. – For those who have been at either Walmart stores in Rapid City, the Rapid City Police Department (RCPD) want consumers to watch their bank and credit card statements.

Sunday, the RCPD was alerted to what appeared to be credit card skimmers at both Walmart stores. After looking at security footage, Rapid City Police confirm thieves placed the skimmers at both Walmart stores on January 9, 2024.

These skimmers at the checkout lanes take  credit or debit card numbers, but police say – as of yet – there’s no evidence to suggest any card information has been compromised. Thieves use the information to make fraudulent purchases.

Police are looking for the two people. Call RCPD Detective Nick Strampe at 605-394-4134 or send an anonymous tip to 847-411 with the letters ‘rcpd.’

Report suspicious activity or charges on your credit or debit cards to the issuing company.
