Custer County Sheriff’s office reports bear sighting

CUSTER, S.D. – The Custer County Sheriff’s Office says watch your picnic baskets.

In a Facebook post Monday, the sheriff’s office says a black bear had been sighted in the Custer area, and shared the photos of the bruin to confirm it.

Officials say they were contacted at 11:35 a.m. Monday about a possible bear sighting in the Hazelrodt Cutoff and Sidney Park road area.   After confirming, and taking a couple pictures they left the area.

Residents are urged to be cautious and give the bear some space. They predict it will move on.

The bear has ear tags and the Game, Fish, & Parks has also been notified.
