RAPID CITY, S.D. – Forecasters say to prepare for dangerous cold weather this week.
The National Weather Service office in Rapid City says the coldest temperatures we’ve seen so far this season will create wind chill values as low as -40 to -60 by Wednesday morning.
In fact, daytime highs on Wednesday and Thursday will probably be in the single digits below zero and overnight lows will be below zero most of the week with the coldest temperatures Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday morning.
The National Weather Service has a wind chill advisory out for most of western South Dakota, with the exception of northwest South Dakota, which is under a wind chill warning.
The advisory and warning are in effect tonight through Wednesday morning.
Remember, with forecast wind chills as low as -60 degrees, frostbite can occur in as little as five minutes. Make sure you have as little exposed skin as possible.
And make sure pets are indoors this week. The cold affects them just as much as it does humans.
